Block paved patio drainage help ... - Hopefully an easy one !

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

Hi folks,

I'm taking on a small block paving project (about 12sq meters) but am struggling a little to visualise the drainage side of things.

Essentially I'm a little confused, You know the concrete drive gulleys the linear drain stuff well from what I understand you need a fall of say 1:80 (Which to my mind is 1cm for every 80cm but please correct me if I'm wrong) however when looking at the drainage the start of it would meet the top of the block paving but by the time you are a few meters into your run the 3rd meter strip would be well below the paving level.

Is this right or am I missing some trick to install this stuff and making it look good :)

Sorry if this is a bit basic or indeed a bit simple but I am probably both at the moment.

Before anyone says I have read the necessary bits on the site (very good it is as well) but I must admit I am struggling a bit at the moment ...

Thanks in advance folks,
- J

The fall of the drain matches the fall of the patio. The patio needs to slope away from the house, 1:80 is plenty on a textured surface. I'm guessing you want to install the linear drains at the bottom of the patio to transport water away. This will require a cross fall from left to right or vice versa, because of the smooth nature of linear channels and the power of gravity a relatively small amount of fall will see the water move easily in the right direction.
If you have largish borders with relatively free draining soil at the bottom of the patio you could let the water run straight into that.
