Upstairs bathroom wastes all lead to main soil downstairs with inspection/rodding chamber in floor of intergral garage. Wish to convert integral garage. I am amid-terrace . Have had new inspection chamber installed outside in garden - 8 feet from new. Garage doors bricked up and now smells noticiable. Have 6 inches 'draft' where new wooden floor will be layed over existing concrete screed. Getting very confusing ref how to deal with old insp chamber - I should add conversion includes ground floor shower room. How best to plumb new shower room/remove smell probs/comply bld regs? Much talk of 'special sealed units'. But surely my new rodding point is only 8 feet further away, so old insp chamber not necessary if exposed soil pipe replaced with 360 degree pipe to stop smells and then new basin/loo/shower attached to existing waste where it comes down into garage vertically (within new floor draft). Have checked out special shower /smellfree waste. Any advice appreciated. Live in listed building, lone female, think ambeing blinded with science £!!!!

cant really advise without being on site, and could benefit from pictures, but problem is complying with building regs with you being a listed building. normally the wastes can be rerouted anfd the old inspection chamber decommissioned and then the smells should go away. The shower could be fitted with anti backflow waste unit inline, and trap to prevent gases returning back up the pipe Your plumber should be able to sort it out.

Errmmmmm???????????????.
If the inspection chamber (internal) is on a straight run of pipework then do away with it, however they seldom are. They are usually at the point of a junction or connection and are there for access.
In that case fit an air tight cover and frame to internal chamber, but remember one day you will need access to it !.
All internal traps (shower/sink/basin) should prevent smells, fit traps with anti-syphon valves in necessary.
Old (listed) buildings can have several old underground connections from disused gullys/toilets/branchlines. Always worth having a drain camera survey so you can account for all live connections, and do away with the disused ones
