Hi all,

After using the help of this great site I built my patio and am very pleased with the results.

However when putting decorative gravel in the splash strip around my house wall I noticed something odd about the small yard/bottle gully drain which the kitchen waste water pipe spills into. the drain is an osma drain and inside has a plug it get access behind the baffle to clear it. The problem is, opposite the baffle trap and the pipe to the sewer theres another outlet leading to my house wall and foundations! this outlet is open and seems to be the same height as the outlet to the sewer so when water fills the drain half goes through the trap to the sewer and half down my house wall. I assume this is wrong and I can just seal in a plastic plate or something to stop the water running down the house? But what is the other outlet for and should it have not been blanked? (new build house, list of defects!)

I hope someone understands what I'm trying to describe,
thanks in advance,

Matt

That outlet should definitely be blanked off!

Are you sure it is open?

sounds like a back inlet gully. it should have, or did at one time a pipe going to it. if that isnt the case then you will have to seal it. use an old bung, or expanding foam, but dont fill the hopper :;):

Thanks guys,

yep it's definitely open, Its hard up against my wall. I can see my unpainted rendering and feel hardcore through it! I'll fill it. The trap was blocked with an accumulation of crud I guess due to a lower flow of water through it since half was spilling down my wall!

I'll notify the house builder of another mistake ???

Thanks,

M
