Any adivice would be appreciated, I am laying a new driveway and between the end of the drive and the house i am laying a linear drain because the drive slops towards the house. At the end of the linear drain directly below is an old 110mm clay pipe coming from drainpipe to a joint to the main drain, ideal place to tap into. the only problem is there is not much space.
Is it possible to go into the side of the pipe with a smaller diameter pipe and if so what fitting and pipe could be used. The alternative would be to break up the concrete path it runs under and replace the exsisting pipe and introduce a 90 degree joint for the linear drain.
Thanks Steve

To make a sound connection you will need to splice a junction into the 100mm VC drain using flexi seal or band seal connectors.
They don`t really make a boss connection for smaller diameter pipes and to be honest the clay is so brittle you would struggle to make a neat 65mm hole without causing a fracture.
It may be possible using denso tape, sealants, concrete and other bodging materials but personally i would want a guranteed water tight connection local to the foundations of the house.
Sorry

Thanks Flowjoe. In your opinion would i be better off taking up the old pipe and replacing it with new pipe. complete with a 90 degree joint for the linear drain. My main worry with this is the connection to the old pipe.

its a pain when you are tight on space like this, the connectors are called AC400 s they connect old clay to new upvc 110mm pipe and they make a good connection
if the levels still dont work its a soakaway
i suppose at least it would be called sustainable paving then
good luck

As long as you have enough pipe to make good connection you should be ok. These joints are usually a bit awkward, but then if there wasn't a challenge, it wouldn't be worth the effort eh:D

Hi Thanks for your reply's. i have decided to renew the pipe and put a new branch in. Can anyone tell me or advise on the best way to cut the old clay pipe, bearing in mind i am stuck for space. I was thinking of using a grinder with masonary cutting wheel.

Yup
Grinder, Top quality disc, goggles ! and technique.
The first three are available on line, the rest we can not pass on through the wonder of the web......
You will not cut through a 100mm pipe in one clean hit even with a 300mm blade, you need plenty of room/access and several cuts, but there are a couple of cheats using a half cut and leverage.
