Hi,

I'm having a small front extension built but plan to complete the foundations myself. The foundations will have an existing foul drain pipe (the old glazed type) running through the foundations at about 45% but how do I accommodate the pipe without damaging it with the weight of the extension. Someone has suggested that I need to use a lintel over the pipe but I'm unsure what would be holding the lintel up over the pipe. Can anyone offer advice please. Cheers.

Box out the pipework to allow a good clearance all around the pipe. maybe splice a larger diameter plastic pipe around the drain, tape polystyrene around it. i presume it is a concrete foundation? if you are bringing it up in brickwork then a lintel is what you need.
