My foreman was away on saturday and trusted me to dig a road to formation depth. I had to dig to 1.5 metres due to wet ground so me and the JCB driver happily did this, the problem is that i have got to put a gully pot into my "hole" which i believe to be 900mm deep, how do i concrete around the pot when i have no support for the concrete, do i stone the area then dig back out for the pot or do i shutter the pot, i have concrete coming at 1 0'clock tomorrow ?

make sure of the depth allow for the cover /frame and 2 to 4 course of bricks. you shouldn't have to shutter as your "hole" shouldn't be to big. you will have to concrete the pipe in also because of depth. just place your concrete round it and remember to make it wide enough to carry the brickwork. if you need to shutter put 3 or 4 6x3s around pot then put ply against that and back fill a little to hold the concrete in place as you build the concrete up pull out the 6x3 with a set of brothers. once it goes off dig out the fill and ply and then backfill in normal way. don't go so mad next time. also if you have gone to deep you will have to make it up with concrete not fill material. you'll do, good luck.

Thanks for the reply but my hole is far too big, its about 10 sq mtrs and 1.5 / 2 mtrs deep and the pot is going to sit in about the middle, allowing for the frame and bricks, it has to be sat on block/bricks so my problem is there is going to be nothing to support the concrete around the actual pot

A pat on the back, The clerk came along and told me to "plaster" the concrete around the pot until there was enough to satisfy him. I also blamed the young labourer ( who wasnt there) for digging the hole too big !!! Everybody went home happy.
