With the recent storms my parking area outside the house has flooded. I have a soakaway which I have checked and appears clear. I have calculated the volume of the soakaway for the area to be drained and it appears that it is to small (the area I have calculated is from the manhole cover to the ruble area) The 2 questions I have are firstly why is ruble required at the bottom of the soakaway? and secondly would it be ok to remove the ruble to increase the soakaway volume?

Thanks in advance Paul

1 - rubble filled soakaways are so outdated they could probably qualify for listed structure status. Modern soakaways, as shown on the main site, do NOT rely on rubble.

2 - Possibly OK to remove rubble. It all depends on the construction of your existing soakaway.
