Hello,

Im looking to doing my own driveway in the next month or so.

Im running a straight Fall from my house to the road and was wondering if i will need to insert a drainage system doing it this way??

Many Thanks

Hi

Thanks for the reply, i also was wondering what the fall will need to be from house to road being that my drive is 8 metres long??

and am i right in thinking that by saying No to the drainage question that it is ok for the water to run straight out onto the path/road??

Many Thanks

Mike

More and more local authorities are frowning on the practice of discharging surface water from a private driveway directly onto a public highway (footpath or carriageway). If you look at some of the new-build estates, you may notice that there's a linear channel at the threshold of outfalling driveways that intercepts surface run-off and directs it to the SW system, which, increasingly, will be linked to an on-site SUDS structure of some type.

It may be that, in your area, the LA can't be arsed with any of this and blithely continue to permit discharge onto the highway, in which case you have nowt to worry about. Provide for a fall of around 1:60 and you should be fine.
