Rubble filled soakaway construction

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

Hi

I’m about to build an extension to my bungalow. Currently the rainwater runs directly into the public sewer. To comply with building regs I am planning to build a soakaway in the back garden and direct the rainwater into it. The construction of this is going to be a 1mx1mx1m hole filled with rubble.

Should I line the soakaway walls with a geotextile, i.e Polyfelt TS60?

Would it be adequate to cover over the soakaway top with the same geotextile before covering over with approximately 300mm of topsoil?

Thanks, Jason

Have a look at the detailed explanation about soakaways on the main site. Also the "sticky" at the top of this forum.
