I have a customer who wants me to fill in a ditch to cut down on maintenance and also so that he can reach the fence at the other side of the ditch which is approximately 2.5m across at the top, 1.5m deep and 150m long.
The ditch is part of a 'flood defence' system, often drying up in summer but running during the winter. The most water I've seen in this ditch was about 20cm after heavy rain in February. The site is surrounded by agricultural land and I don't want to cause problems to anybody either upstream or down.
Although I've checked this site, I can't find anything relating to drainage of ditches. My customer has suggested an 450mm dia. clay pipe but I'm not so sure, so - can anybody give me advice on this? For example, what sort of pipe to use and how it should be bedded to prevent it from sinking?
Land drainage - Advice please
