Hi, I hope someone can help, but I'm not sure this is the correct forum. I have to pump the sewage from my house. I have a chamber set underground installed with two pumps inside. The chamber has an integral steel manhole cover. I want to flag over this area, but obviously I need access to the chamber for maintence etc. How do I go about raising something like this, so that the cover is accessible from the patio. I don't want to cut the current cover out from the tank, so I'm presuming something like a recessed tray is the answer. Is it best to simply leave my cover intact and then construct a new access point to it from the patio?

Sorry, I'm a new DIYer at all this, but I'm keen to do the patio myself. But maybe I'm best to get a builder in to deal with this manhole issue.

I'd need to see the cover before I could say what might work - it's probably better to ask a local contractor to take a look, spend half-an-hour picking his brain, and if they come up with summat good, bung him (or her) 20 quid for a pint in acknowledgement of their input.
