I have an existing pooling problem where the water gathers in an area approx 2m x 1m within a block paved area with a small garden retaining wall on one side and the house wall and patio doors on the other. This pooling area is within a narrow strip of paving about 2 mt from wall to wall, so like a rectangular puddle in a longer rectangular area of block paving.
In my attempt to try and find out if I could drain this away, I found a sawn off drainage pipe at the base off the garden retaining wall which I believe goes to a soakaway in the middle of the garden. It looks like this used to be linked to one of the gutter down pipes which now has been removed and diverted to the other side of the house.
I am thinking of trying to connect a drainage system to this a get rid of my puddle/mini-pool, however measuring the invert from the top of the pavers and the existing soakaway pipe there is only 80mm depth.
What do you suggest I can do? as my research so far shows that most drains/covers and connection required at least 108mm deth even before you connect any drainage pipework.
Your advice appreciated.

I'm having difficulty visualising this - are you proposing to install a gully of some description within the area that's ponding and then connect this up to the pipe you discovered?

Would it not be possible to re-lay the paving to levels that eliminate the ponding and sent the water to a better collection or disposal point?

Hi Tony and thanks for reply.

I am intending to try and fit a gully in the area that is ponding as a preferred option to relaying the blocks.
I would like to connect it up to the existing pipe but fear that I cannot get the fall because of the 80mm depth limitation.
Another problem is that it is the main patio area and my good lady will have difficulty accepting a typical acco drain.(Isore)
Is there anything available on the market and what would you suggest? ???

But to install a gully and all the connecting pipework, you have to lift up a sizable section of the paving anyway! Believe me, re-laying an area of paving is much, much less work than installing a new gully.

If you don't want to use a linear channel drain, then your only option is a pavement gully. Have a look at the pavement gullies from Hepworth. They look quite smart, and although they are as discreet as is possible, they aren't invisible (and they aren't anywhere as cheap as a linear channel drain!)
