HI My concern regards the puddling of water at the base and in front of or the non-bed side of a couple of retainer walls. The grade at each wall is greater than 30% and the original soil is clay. one wall is 36 - 4 2 inches high and the bed is about 8 feet from front to back. The other is 18 inches high brick and about 6' from front to back. This wall is mortared in with weep holes between every other brick on the lowest course. The other is dry stacked concrete blocks and not impervious. Both beds were then fillled with a garden mix and planted with some shrubs and annuals and then mulched. There were no provisions made to direct teh flow of water through the walls. This water comes priamily from pop up heads form the irrigation system.
How can I eliminate or control this from occcuring if i do another retainer wall. And more pressing, what can i do to eliminate the water that is creating a major puddle at teh base of these two walls. Both locations have slabs within 22 inches and 8 feet. The ground between the walls and concrete slabs is flat so water does not flow away.
There is a slope within 20 feet offto teh side that could be used if i can get the water there. The shorter wall is made of brick and the slab is 22 inches away. I have matching bricks i can lay down here to replace teh suffering grass.
What do you suggest as a means to resolve this water problem. Thanks for your time and consideration.
Tom

It sounds as though a 'back-of-wall' collector drain directed to a suitable outfall or disposal point would be the simplest solution. It's difficult to prescribe a solution that would work with every implementation, but, generally speaking, when hanging water is a problem, a collector drain is often the answer.
