It's me Stan again! (See previous 'How do I drain with no drain) post. Having read a few more replies to forum questions I see the gravel is a bad idea. So if I fit a AquaCell Storm Water Management System, or the small domestic solution of inspector chambers, and have a french drain running into them, will it work in a clay based soil or just become an underwater tank of stagnant water?

The problem you have is caused by the presence of that layer of clay. It really doesn't matter what sort of land drain system you employ: whether it's a cell attenuation system, a soakaway, a French Drain or whatever, it just won't work with clay.
If you can break through the clay and find a lovely layer of highly permeable sandstone underneath, then you're laughing, but relying on any sort of permeable system that will, effectively, be encased within an impermeable envelope, will achieve nowt other than a rapid emptying of the wallet.

Thanks Tony, my wallet is my closest friend, and I hate to see it empty! Sounds as if I'll just have to live with it. I will look into trying to make the soil better, and maybe plant some big, water loving evergreen bushes, at least then I won't be able to see Lake Preston. Anybody any suggestions for a big, water loving evergreen bush?:D
