Help!

I have a manhole / access chamber inside my original garage extension, and I need an alternative because I want to convert part of the garage into a downstairs loo with small dimensions, I do not want a large 700 x 550 cover in the floor as it will get in the way, but I want to connect the new loo into it.

As far as I can tell it currently sits at the junction of mine and my next door neighbours SVP before going off to the main sewer.

Someone has suggested to me that I could install a reducing PPIC inspection chamber or MAC chamber on top of the existing chamber to decrease the size of the opening at floor level. It would need recessed lid for tiling etc. and would have an lid of 450mm or 300mm respectively which would fit in with my plans for the new loo.

Any ideas, advice, spec sheets etc.?

You could use a reducing cover slab to get the access opening size down to 450x450 and then use a double-sealed recess cover. This would be a lot easier than installing a new PPIC from scratch.

Have you discussed your plans with your local Building Control Office? They may have some usueful recommendations they've approved for other, similar schemes in your area.

Thanks for the reply. That seems a lot easier / straightforward than relacing the chamber. I just need to be sure that I can connect the new loo that I am fitting to the existing chamber outlets etc.

I will take your advice and speak with the LA building office.
