land drains in the way

while putting in some fence posts i came across a land drain made from clay like pot about 12" down. I need to put a fence post at that point can i break it and do i need to bypass it thanks

Yes - it's an old one, if it's clayware.

Break it out to make room for the posts, and then, once the post is in place, you can re-connect the two ends of the land-drain using a gravel channel or a short length of flexible, corrugated placky pipe, just in case it is still functional.

The great thing about land-drains is that they can't be too leaky! :)
