I want to lay two different colours of tarmac next to each other without an obvious edge such as concrete or block, so that the colours look as though they are touching. The design incorporates tight curves and so a flexible edge that will be able to withstand the heavy tarmac machinery is what is needed. It has been suggested that a stainless steel edge could be used but this would be expensive, do you have any ideas?

Hard to say without knowing how tight the curves are, You could try using a thin piece of timber as a shutter or another way would be to slightly overlay with your first colour, let it go off for a few hours and then mark out your curve and cut with a disc cutter.

Lay one colour to level, use a joint board of the correct thickness to assist. I'd then trim it back with a power saw as SHL says and then lay the next colour to it. Roll the joint (pinch it in) from the cold side and you should be fine.
What you laying - red & black? 6mm SMA?

Dave's idea is the "contractor's fix", but if you want summat a bit more upmarket, you can use a shallow aluminium edging strip, such as those used with resin-bound surfacing.
Here's the one used by SureSet...
...which is simply bent to shape and nailed to the substrate as required. Very discreet when laid, and it can be coloured to make it blend with one of the bitmacs....

I'd like to see that system in use and the finished product in real life. It looks good from here, anyway.
Mind you, how often have we laid differing colour tarmacs? I can't think of one instance (yet)
You wait.....next week, we'll be doing it!!

Why didn't the black Tarmac want to sit next to the red tarmac?...
Coz he was a cycle-path :p
