Looking for some advice on some stains left over from using Joint-IT simple jointing compound. I have a light grey Indian stone patio covered in blemishes left by what looks like incorrect application of the product. Manufacturer says is an oil based compound and may fade after 3-6 months but been left with something the missus is not happy with.

What they have told you is correct - the discoloration is, most likely, due to the doping oil that is used to prevent the product curing until it is exposed to the air. The oil evaporates, and curing begins.
However, if the Joint-It is applied to dry flagstones (rather than having them thoroughly pre-wetted) the oil is someimes absorbed by the stone where it lurks for a few months before finally breaking down and disappearing, leaving you none the wiser.
You may find that an organic-based oil remover might 'accelerate' the process....but it doesn't work in every siuation.
