Hi All ..
I’m embarking on a new patio ..
Speaking to an experienced builder / landscaper about what bedding mix to use..
I’m laying 600x600 Bradstone textured paving, he has recommended using 6 part building sand 2 part sharp sand 1 part cement ..
However I have read it should be 6 part sharp to 1 part cement
Are there any rights or wrongs .. pros/ cons to this ?
Cheers in advance ...

Building sand, or soft sand, will make no difference to the strength. You are more accurate with 6 to 1.

Building sand usually has the wrong size and shape of grains, plus it often contains a relatively high level of clay minerals that can discolour the mortar and the paving itself.

While no-one would die by using building sand to bed paving, it's best avoided. There are very, VERY good reasons why the British Standard insists on the equivalent of a sharp/grit sand, whether it is loose or as part of a mortar.
