Do the pros use any equipment to check the density of the sub base to confirm that it’s been compacted correctly?

Is there a DIY method to check or is it just a case of multiple passes until it feels right?

Yes, we use a nuclear density meter - far, far, far beyond the needs of a DIYer

Thanks Tony. Just found out a little about them.

I’m doing countless passes with my wacker in every orientation and making sure I don’t have each layer too deep. Hopefully it’s over engineered.

when its wacked properly the surface is almost flat and if you walk across it you feel it is solid

Cheers LLL, yes it’s rock solid. Stupidly flat really. Took me ages. Even spent hours sifting out the finer particles in the type 1 to fill small voids as that’s all the aggregate I have here.
