Hi,

I was looking at getting sandstone for my patio but I’ve been told it can stain quite badly and can be quite porous. Then I’ve been told it’s not if you get the ones that aren’t smooth finished. Someone told me limestone is good too easier to clean and stains less. Then someone said the opposite!!

I have two Labradors (they only go on grassed areas to go the loo) so need something easy to clean and maintain. It’s for an area of 70m2 too!

Anyone got any advice?

Very, very generally speaking, the Kotah limestones are lower maintenance than most of the Indian sandstones

Only slight concern with Kota Limestone is the dog pee. I'm not too sure of the chemical make up of dogs urine but Kota Limestone is notoriously sensitive to anything acidic. Sounds silly but Might be worth getting a sample and getting the dog to pee on it......see if there is any reaction.

My dad has dogs and he has a Raj Green Sandstone Patio (expertly laid by Gareth Noon of Build Pave and Scape). We had the stone pre-sealed and it looks as good today as it did 5 years ago
