Hi,

I am new to the forum but I have read through a lot of topics in my quest to DIY a patio. I am aiming to put down a 7m x 5m patio with either Indian sandstone or granite paving.

There was a concrete path around the perimeter of the house that was in place for about 40 years and I have taking it all up and am about to make the base for the slabs. I was aiming to put down 100 mm of MOT type 1 down but realised after taking the concrete up that there is a lot of rock in the ground. With the rock in place I can only get around 50 mm of the MOT in approximately 50% of the area and 100 mm in the rest.

Would this be ok seeing that the rock is solid or will I have to quarry the rock out to get 100 mm of MOT across the whole area ?

The old concrete path was 100 mm below the DPC and I am aiming to lay the slabs back to that level. I understand that this should be 150 mm below the DPC but after seeing the rock and the fact that there has never been issues in the past I thought this would be ok?

Any advice I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks

:)
