Hi all,
First of hats off to the site creator, fantastic resource thank you its been very helpful and interesting! So to the question, what is the staining in the photos? a forum trawl indicates oxidation?

New stone bought ~ 8 months ago for my 2017 garden project (the best laid plans eh!) now been laid by a contractor. It was ~£20sqm
I left some stones in wet sharp sand for many months till I noticed the staining, after a read here I thought that it was acid damage from weak acids forming in the sandy rain mixture on the stones but it sounds like it could also be oxidation as some (all be it less severe) of the stones that were left in the pack have also gone brown?
I don't know why they laid these and not the OK ones and I will ask for them to be swapped but do I need to worry about the rest going like this after begin laid? should I seal them to prevent it?
Any help would be much appreciated!
