Hi all, first time post :-)

Had a new patio installed as part of a full house redevelopment and extension. The slabs are Bradstone Stone Flair mid grey and have started coming up with blotches. :-(

Having read through some of the excellent resources on here I'm suspicious that the installer hasn't followed best practice and has spot bedded / ring bedded at least some of the slabs.

The patio is flush with our extension so raised up on about a foot of compacted hardcore with another sub layer of type 1 aggregate compacted over this.

Would appreciate any confirmation / feedback on what might be causing these marks .

Thanks in advance

this page reflective staining answers most of your questions
almost certainly not a full bed,but of course the only way to find out is to take one up
and unless the installer is prepared to rectify that is a can of worms

Hi LagerLout,

Thanks for the quick reply... That's what I feared it might be.
The link for the reflective staining says there is little that can be done.
Does this include relaying the slabs on the proper mortar bed or would they be permanently discoloured and need replacing ?
As it was only laid 6 months ago then I want to go back to the contractor to get them to resolve it but don't want to be fobbed off. The work will be covered under a JCT building contract so is guaranteed and have the option to take to mediation (then court is needs be).

I fear it would be a skip the lot job and start again

Hi LL,

The suppliers confirmed as much this morning when I spoke to them... Wish I'd checked the installation requirements myself rather than trusting the builder.
Lesson learned the hard way.

Thanks for the advice. I'll post back how it goes!

Cheers
