Hi,

Over the weekend, I laid 40 slabs of Indian Sandstone on a full bed of mortar (mixed at appropriately 6:1). As i finished, a torrential rain shower (that hadn't been forecast at all) soaked the work. The result is that a couple of the slabs now have a tiny wobble when one corner is stepped on. I was wondering if there is a chance that when I point the slabs with a wet mix that the slight wobble will be rectified or if I am looking at having to relay the entire thing.

If you're using Rompox Easy it won't stop any wobbling and if they are full on wobbling then they're effectively completely loose.

I've laid 50sqm of indian stone and had four wobblers and what i call four tappers. I've relaid the wobblers as all that will happen is they'll crack along the high point then you'll have to replace the flag instead of relaying. I know its the last thing you want to do but if you have a hammer drill to break up the bed it will literally take 15-20 minutes to sort.

Just in regards to the 'tappers', i'm inclined to leave them as i think the slabs will break when i try to get them up. Does anyone have an opinion in regards to making an opening in the mortar line and pouring a small amount of liquidy mix in or even Rompox D1 (which i happen to be using for some cobbles) to infill the slight gap that is causing the tapping?

They aren't proper wobbles, it is just that when one corner is stepped on, the opposite corner lifts a millimeter or so. I can notice it but my less than observant wife says she cant notice it. I don't want to go trough the effort of pointing the whole lot only for it to be a waste of time, but equally, i don't want to have to spend another weekend mixing and bedding mortar. If i made a wet pointing material out of fine sand, would that be likely to solve the problem?

rain rarely causes this, incorrect bedding is usually the cause
as said
take them up now, remove bedding and relay
best in the long run
