Hi Guys, first time here, nice to meet you!

So recently i had a family member lay 45 sq/m of kandlar gray paving down, then he got his friend to point it.

I did ask if the pointing could be grey which he told me it would be like a grey but unfortunately it isnt, its like a browny colour which i think ruins the overall effect.

So my question is this, is there any products i can buy to either stain the pointing a darker greyish colour, or paint it, or does it have to come out and be re-done?

I also have the issue of the calcium white salty stuff all over the flags but i suppose ill start a new thread for that.

I'll also include some pictures if i can. -edit- not sure how to add pictures?

You could paint it, I suppose, but what a waste of time!

Too many people obsess over the colour of the pointing and fail to understand that:

1 - you won't even notice it in 3 months' time
2 - it *will* be mucky brown by then, as dirt and detritus accumulate.

The only 'colour choice' worth even thinking about is "light or dark". Do you want something that empathises with the flags and matches or nearly matches their colouring, or do you wanty something that contrasts, that frames the flags and makes them stand out?

There are dyes that can be used to stain cemet mortars and concretes once they've cured but they ain't cheap, they ain't particularly effective, and they have a tendency to contaminate the adjacent paving. They had a brief moment of popularity thanks to some eejit "design guru" on a home makeover show 15-20 years ago, who stupidly believed Barbie pink mortar would rejuvenate a tired patio of old Marley paving...but, thankfully, I managed to talk most enquirers out of wasting their money.

If the mortar colour is bugging you that much, cut it out and replace with something you like, but stick to light or dark....or possible something mid-range. The 2-part resin mortars are particularly good at giving a permanent, reliable and, most importantly, power-washer resistant, coloured jointing product.
