Hard landscaping plastering sand

Hi,

I am taking on a small patio 10 metre square. However, i am having difficulty selecting the right type of sand to lay the natural limestone(calibrated) flags on to. There appears to be varying opinions. I intend to do a 6:1 mix sand/cement, what is the best sand for this - i have all materials and even the sub base done but i have got paranoid over the sand. Do i use plastering sand or paving sand or...? These guys are close (see below link) to me so would be ideal but they only offer hard landscaping paving or hard landscaping plastering sand. I thought i should use sharp sand. Any information appreciated, bit confused now. cheers

you need flooring sand
proper name grit sand,AKA riverwash,AKA screeding sand
plastering sand is not strong enough

That's a bollix of a descripion: hard landscaping plastering sand??? It's either a sand for hard landscaping (so 0-4 mm with low fines) or it's a plastering sand. It cannot be both!

"Concreting Sand" is, probably, the most commonly used term in Ireland for the correct sand, but, as with much else in the Republic, there is a deal of regional variation, so, in Limerick, it is often known as grit, even though its is, technically, a sand.
