Edging problem - How to lay edging

just wondering if anyone can help me i am looking to edge my sandstone patio with charcoal blockpavers and i wondered if i could space them 10mm to match the sandstone joints i know this would me haunching right up to the back of the pavers to keep the jointing material in there or is it better to butt them up and brush sand in later cheers for any suggestions in advance
