We laid black limestone paving slabs in July 2016 (before we found out what a nightmare they are) and it has taken until now, March 2017, for the efforescent and stains to disappear. We were intending to coat them with a sealant of some kind in May/June this year.
Unfortunately, today, it would appear there has been some kind of oil spilled on some of them - our fridge/freezer got a new compressor fitted to it and the engineer left me to dispose of the old compressor. As I was carrying it to the car to take it to the recycling plant, I think there has been oil in it which has spilled out.
We have poured Fairy Liquid over the area and hot soapy water and scrubbed the area, but when it dries the marks are still there, although perhaps slightly paler.

Is there anything else we can use to get rid of the oil marks on the black limestone?
