Hi guys,
New to the site but I found myself constantly coming back for more and more information, so I said Id sign up and share my experiences/ask questions.
I've never laid a patio before and after getting a few quotes, I decided to go at it myself. I'm pretty handy on the tools (plumbing, electrics etc.) so rarely get anyone in to do stuff around the house save for plastering maybe.
Anyway, I completed ground works a few months ago and the then the project was put on hold due to the kids being off school, holidays etc. So Saturday last I started into laying a few flags. The weather wasnt great so it was slow progess. I took yesterday off and got another 2 rows completed.
I have attached a picture that I took yesterday when I was half way on, I know have 4 rows complete as of finished yesterday evening.
We are laying 700 x 500 x 30 mm Black granite flags with 100 x 100 mm cobbles around the perimeter. You can see some of the cobbles in the picture. I reckon I am going to exchange them for a darker colour though as there isnt enough contrast between the flags. I've been using an 8:1 cement mix as it makes things easier for laying the flag.
I've 55m2 to get through so progress will be slow and steady.
I have a question about the step I am hoping to put in at the double doors in the picture. Ideally I would like the step to be at the same level as the internal floor to prevent the little ones from getting injured (youngest is 1). At the same time I want to bring it as tight to the house as possible, again to prevent injury etc. What would be the best way of doing this? The DPC is 140mm from the flags that are laid in the picture. Ill try and get a better picture later this evening of the bottom of the door and a side on view showing the profile of the reveal etc.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Dave
