So, I've done some digging this weekend with a view to extending our patio. Aiming for 75-100mm drop for hardcore, 20mm for a dry sand and cement mix and then the slabs themselves. I've definitely overshot it in some places and not hit it where I couldn't get the spade in, which I hope is ok.

Anyway, I've counted approx. 70 600mm square slabs would be required to cover the new area. I think this is about 25m2.

Does 5 1m3 bags of hardcore seem sufficient to fill the sub base layer or obviously too little / too much? How much sand and cement would you expect?

Thanks in advance.

you should be using type 1 at 100mm thick
in which case 5 bulk bags (note bulk not metres) should be ok
you will need approx 2 bulk bags of sharp sand and 10 bags of OPC for the laying
cheers LLL :)

This should help you to calculate quants for laying http://www.pavingexpert.com/calcall.htm
