What would be the thinnest possible bedding layer that would be OK to use if laying a couple of Indian sandstone slabs onto an existing concrete doorstep?

Will buy a couple of 22mm calibrated slabs to make life easier.

Long story but I dont have much room to play with an would maybe need bedding layer a 1/4 inch.

Thinking a strong sand/cement mix + SBR, and, SBR primer paste on concrete step and on back of slabs.

Any other alternatives most welcome!!

basically just an SBR cement slurry and get it down fast
I have done a repair recently for someone and i reckon using this the total bed was around 3 mm
no water ,just neat SBR and cement whisked with a paddle mixer

Thanks Luton lager lout.

Worked perfect. SBR primer on back of slabs and top of step, thin layer of sharp sand, cement + SBR. Solid as a rock. Didn't take long before you could feel it take a good grip.
