Hi all -

Having Rompox'd me cobbles and indian sandstone areas back in April, I noticed 2 things have started to happen:

1. The Rompox between the joints has started to turn pinky purple in places (same colour as the scalpin base I put down). Clearly its starting to draw it's new colour from the sub base.

2. I'm forever brushing sandy residue off the surfaces as the Rompox starts to erode. I'm also a little concerned that eventually all the grouting will disappear!

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice as to whether I should put a sealant down? I've read the main site on sealants and - whilst i'm not fussed about the glossy finish - it would be nice to lock in those little grains of sand once and for all. And should I be tempted to point over the Rompox 'pink' before I seal, or will this look crap?

Any advice more than welcome - I've got post project blues, so if theres something I gotta do - I'm all ears :)

thanks as ever - Ian

The colour change and the erosion just don't sound right. Have you any photies?

it wouldnt be any dust left over from cutting flags that was lurking around was it?
weird looking though

.. not dust from the flag cutting, definitely gritty sand from the rompox that keeps coming up as I sweep (theres a few bits of general muck in the photie, but its mostly loose rompox).

I think the trouble with these cobbles/carpet stones is what to point them in with. By its nature, there's a lot of pointing in the cobble section (unlike normal flags) and it keeps brushing up. I dont particularly want to re-rompox as a) its not cheap and b) if memory serves it has to be a certain depth which it wouldn't be if I just 'topped up' the surface layer.

Thats why I'm wondering whether sealing the cobbles now (which dont carry a stain [yet]), and pointing over rompox where the flags are, is worth the effort.

Thanks in advance for any advice ... Ian
