Hello, I would like some advice please on preparation for laying a patio.

It would be fair to say that I'm quite a novice; in fact I've never done anything like this before.

I thought for my summer holiday I'd try and learn how and lay a patio. Well I'm nearing the end of the holiday and all I have really achieved is digging a hole in the garden.

I've come across a few sticking points, and this just the latest...

How much sharp sand, cement, and MOT do I need?

The area I have is 5.6M by 3.7M.

I am laying Bradstone Mode porcelain slabs as per the guide on a full wet bed at 50mm.

I have asked the big retailers and wholesalers and they are coming up with vastly varying figures from 7 bags to 24 tons, I get that its not rocket science but isn't there a formula for this type of thing?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

If only there was a website where all this information was freely available and easy to read! Just imagine!

Ah, I had expected some sarcasm as I left myself open to it.

I must admit everything I know about paving/patio I've learnt/read from this website; its by far the most in depth and knowledgeable I've seen. But information is a bit like a tool; you need to know how to use it.
