hello! firstly i want to say how brilliant this site is and the information that is on here!

this is my first post.

i have had two pallets of maple sandstone delivered.
not sure if i should mention the company so i wont!

unloaded the first box. its sawn smooth sandstone.
has the rivets on the back. on the whole very nice

the second box however is quite different colour wise (i know its a natural product so i expect differnences!) but it is generally a 'warm' colour with quite prominent markings, whereas the other box is quite 'cool'. the 'warm' box however, is smooth both sides. so it is difficult to tell which side is up. is this normal? the people i have laying them are having issues with the smooth ones as they say they are not bonding properly with the base, whereas the ones with the riveted base are fine (obviously!)

both the packs have different labels
although both say maple. one says project pack and is from rajasthan, the other linear project pack from madhya pradesh (both in india) the rajasthan pack are the better quality in terms of the riverted back, better colours and less scratches on the front of the stones. some of the other pack you can quite clearly see on both sides of the stones the saw marks.

i hope i have written this clear enough to understand!

my partner has said for them to stop laying them (as its raining heavily they have anyway) and for me to contact the company tomorrow. but your thoughts would be appreciated!

i also for got to add that the smooth both sides pack appear to have been stained by the wood from the pallet. it looks like it got wet and has seeped into some of the slabs. also from reading the forums it looks like my maple is actually rainbow. which doesnt seem to have a very good reputation on here. which i didnt know about before. im not 100% sure if the first pack is rainbow, but certainly i would say the second is.

i used a reputable company with their premier stone brand so im a bit worried!

glad its raining and they have stopped laying.....

If this had been obtained bargin bucket off ebay or similar then the advice would probably be to chalk it up to experience, buy cheap buy twice etc.

However if you have purchased this from a reputable supplier and especially if this is from any sort of premier range it does sounds like you need to contact them asap, if only to check the correct thing has been supplied?

See what they say about the stone? There obviously should not be obvious saw marks on the paving face. Any good company will replace unacceptable flags if the marks are visually significant.

As far as adhesion etc that is not necessaily the stone but partly the fault of the installer. Whilst this stone is very porous which makes it harder to bond to bedding there are ways around this. Using a bond bridge for example is a good idea with stone like this. Also making sure flags arent bone dry when laying etc.
