Why is there so much variance on suppliers advice , ie on sealing the paving , some say unless its honed / smooth finnish it needs sealing , others say all types should be sealed .?

no paving needs sealing
sealers in the correct hands and the right budget can be a good thing
but did the greeks or romans use sealers on their flags?
if you want it sealed ,be prepared to pay a heft wack for decent sealers

True but the Greeks and Romans didn’t have to deal with Coca-Cola or engine oil being dropped on their paving?

very true Craig,
my concern is more with cheap sealers, applied by amateurs,than actual sealing
I have done some lovely patios ,only to be told
" we put some of that $%^&*$% patio ruiner on it and now it looks all patchy"
