Still looking to buy paving , anyone purchased bradstone fossil buff calibrated ? just a bit concerned as edges are hand cut and i might have difficulty in keeping gaps consistant ?
or is it best to but sawn edges ? also the bradstone planner gives you ides of layouts and most of them show 4 corners meeting up ? I thought it was a no no ?
Is it best to go for a well known make or buy without brand ? thanks for all inputs .

Lots of paving has handout edges and if you lay out a few as a practice layout to start with, you should get a feel for the sort of size tolerances found with the stone. Even sawn edge paving needs to have a gap, so there's not really much to gain by looking for this instead, especially if you are after a riven surface stone. You will just limit your choices down. Minor irregularities are not going to show once it's pointed as long as when you look at the long lines where the stones meet and cross, these need to line up as if these are staggered it will look awful.

Fossil mint is one of the more porous types of sandstone and whilst still popular, there will be more of an ongoing maintenance requirement with this particular colour. I would suggest considering maybe a raj or camel sort of colour or even a kandla grey as these are harder stone and easier to look after.

In terms of branded versus unbranded, you can be 100% certain that all decent brands test their stone in accordance with British Standards to ensure amongst other things, that it is suitable for use in the UK. This is a seal of approval so you can be sure that you are buying a good product. There will be unbranded stone that is equally good, but there is also an awful lot of it that's not and as much as it may be called the same name, it's certainly not the same quality.

If it's any help, we can assist you with branded stone paving on our website, or just give us a call and we can guide you through.

RKS when laying hand cut paving must blokes use lines set to datums
so for a 900 flag the datum is set to 910mm
by doing this you may get bigger or smaller joints size but you eliminate the *rogue* sized flag
hope this helps
