Hello all
Firstly a big thank you, whilst I never posted here I tapped a lot in the knowledge shared.
Briefly we have instructed to pave over a back passage behind some shops around 40m long and 2m wide. Below there are shop cellars so the whole thing was covered in some bitumen? years ago.
The covering is watertight is the looks that they want to improve.
Would like to know what is the best practice(if possible) to lay the slabs without breaking the bituminous cover as being watertight as it is I'm am quite reluctant to do it fearing future problems.
Thanks you

Should you really be carrying out a job if you don't know how to do it

I would of thought the asphalt was to make it watertight
If you break it out you will most likely have to tank it all again. Look up liquid membrane and preprufe, very expensive.

You can get special tiles for asphalt that you stick down we did a large patio at a rugby club that was asphalted then we stuck the tiles down, there will be a post somewhere on here about it or I'll try find the pics, they came from Scotland and were a fibre cement type
