Laying flag stones

Patio flagstones (slabs), concrete flags, stone flags including yorkstone and imported flagstones.

I have a very sound block paving patio. I can't cope with the weeds anymore. Can flag stones be laid over the top?

If it was me I would take the blocks up and start from scratch. What about the 150 below DPC?

If the block paving is sound barring the weeds the chances are the sub base should be sound too.
Block paving is very easy to take up so why not whip the blocks and sand out, make sure the sub base is correct to suit laying flags, if not top up and compact as nesessary then lay the new flags.
