I'm just about ready to start a new series of trials for stone paving sealants. The format will be similar to what was used for the Black Limestone trials a few years back - coat pieces of selected stone and then leave them out in the weather for 12 months - as that seems to have worked really well.

I do already have a reasonable selection of sealants but if anyone wants to add or suggest candidates to the battery of suspects, you need to get in touch within the next 10 days. I'm planning to start the trials on the weekend of June 20th/21st

You could try the ones we use, Aqua-Mix & Miracle both from Tiling Logistics in Birmingham, email if you need any details etc.

Do you use those on sandstone, Roger? I know you use the Aqua-Mix on Black Limestone.

Email me the contact details again - I've probably lost what you sent previously.

Email sent Tony, subject sealer details in case it ends up in "spam" or "junk"

Hi Tony, I've been testing a few myself
The picture below shows 4 sealers
Some however have had 2 coats
On the left is LTP colour intensifier and stain block 2 coats
Next to it is smart seal natural stone impregnating sealer colour enhancer 2 coats.
The dark one is Aqua mix enrich n seal , 1 coat
And on the right is LTP matt stone, 2 coats
The enrich n seal really darkens the stone, unsure of if it's for me as to the eye it almost blurrs some of the features of the stone although it is slightly improving after 24 hours.
The smart seal does nothing, however it is the only one that wouldn't allow a second coat to absorb into the stone.
Hope this helps. Luke

I did say in another thread the Smart-Seal was shite, the Aqua-Mix would look better over a bigger area, from the photo the "blurred" effect is that it is darker then the other 2, showing more of the beauty of the stone but the area of sealer is small if you get what I'm saying? so it really stands out your eyes are drawn to it. If you wanted or needed to give the Aqua-Mix a second coat, then 72 hours after the first one, very thin coat only and remove any excess after around 10 minutes.

Sorry for being late - actually had a couple of days to myself and my bike for this first time in weeks.

Dry Treat - yes: David Coster arrived unannounced at the drawbridge to Borlochs Hall last week bearing a box full of various goodies, so we drew up the portcullis and let him in.

Just waiting for one tardy soul who begged, and I mean literally begged, pleaded and entreated to be allowed to participate in this trial, but has mysteriously gone to ground. On the off-chance that he's buggered off on holiday, he has until this Friday to get samples of his jollop to me......

Right - the candidates for the trials are lined up as follows....

Image

Back Row: Funcosil OFS - Kingfisher K-Seal - Hanafin Concrete Finisha - DryTreat MetaCreme

Mid Row: Larsen - LTP Mattstone - Lithofin Colour Intensifier - Lithofin Stain Stop Eco - Lithofin Stain Stop Plus - DryTreat Intensifia

Front Row: PaveTuf - Romex Colour Seal - AdSeal HD Sealant - AdSeal Stone Sealant - DryTreat StainProof

Lying Down: Weiss FT PLus - Weiss StainProtect Profi

...I make that 17 in total. I've asked every manufacturer so far suggested but either they don't want to be a part of the trials or they can't be arsed, but late entrants are always welcome....well, at least for another two or three weeks.
