Hi
I am having to repoint my Indian sandstone patio myself which I have unfortunately discovered is spot bedded. I wanted to use vdw800 but obviously can't have gaps under the slabs for this. Is it possible to fill these gaps under the slabs with a cement gun? Or would I have to pack in sand/cement? I have never done any paving or pointing before. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunately it all has to come up and be laid on a full bed. No pointing material will last on spot laid paving.

Thanks for the fast reply, as devastating as it is to hear! As the area in question is approx 100m2 I just cannot afford to have it all redone at the moment. Is there at least a method of repointing that will give me maybe a year or 2 until I can get it redone by a pro?

I understand the money issue but as Dempsey says it really needs to be re-laid.
If it's a years wait, leave as it is.
If it's a case of it's never going to be re-laid and you are confident :p that there are no rocking slabs you could chuck a dryish mortar mix into the joints and pack it down to the depth of the slabs and then use a brush in jointing compound when the mortar has set.
It's not the greatest way to do it but if moneys an object then maybe better than having open joints for the next few years.
There will be a time in the future where you will have to re-do it if you haven't moved home first and I suspect from the method of installation that the sub-base is going to be shot also.

elf if relay is not an option and the flags are not rocking you could try the old trick of squirting a wet slurry in the gaps
this is going to take a long time to do
I know spot bedding is wrong wrong wrong but I have come across a patio of council greys laid on 4 spots of concrete and apart from mice living under it no slab had moved
the main thing if you do not want to relay is to fill the joints before water gets in there
