Can anyone help?

I have a garden wall which shores up and separates two lawns at different heights. The wall is level with the upper lawn and is topped with local slate tiles.

The tiles have all lifted & I have had them re laid - at least twice .

Matters are not helped by frequent foot-fall of children running from one to other lawns.

I need advice on which mix to use to fix the tiles and would be grateful for any other tips. For example, I have scored them and cleaned them as best possible: - does it matter that they still have traces of old mortar on them?

Thanks.

how thick are the slates/tiles?
you need to use an SBR slurry on each one before it is bedded down
to do this you mix neat SBR with cement and use as a primer
the mortar needs to be 3:1 sand cement also with SBR mixed in

leave alone for 48 hours and
voila!

20cm
thanks for the help
Sorry to sound ignorant but presumably I put the wet slurried tile straight down onto the wet mortar
And am I doing the right thing trying to get all the old mortar off the wall first - its quite a task!
thanks

Yep wet slurry onto wet mortar, maybe some slurry on the wall also before the mortar.

It's up to you, If the old bed is that difficult to remove then it's obviously well adhered to the wall.
It may be difficult though to achieve a satisfactory appearance with the old bed left on.
Cheers
