Hi all - first post and am hoping for some advice please.

Our 2 ex-racing greyhounds have torn our lawn to pieces so we're going to get it laid as patio. We really like the look of granite so we are considering that but our garden is surrounded by trees and the dogs do of course pee/poo on it.

Is granite going to stain in these circumstances? If we seal it will that prevent it staining?

Are we better off forgetting about granite and just going with council flags? They don't look great but at least we can pressure wash them clean.

Thanks folks.

Pretty much like any paving Granite can stain, depends what the stain is really, If it is surrounded by tress then when the time comes to leaf fall, if then sit on the surface for a while you'll most probably get some tannin stains but easily removed, re the dogs urine, it shouldn't stain or etch to much if you rinse it away after the dogs have done their business.

On top of what Roger has said I would definitely advise sealing in this scenario. With the dog mess and the leaf drop its going to need lots of maintenance to keep it looking fresh. Sealing will make this much easier bu preventing the stains from the Wee, pooh and leaf litter absorbing into the stone.

A *really* hard, impermeable (ish) stone such as good quality (so not Indian) porphyry can withstand dogs....but most of you know what my favoured solution is for dog mess ;~)
