Hi,

I've read through pavingexpert page about paving the same level as the DPC. However I had a landscaping guy around for a quote and specified I wanted a Dry Area Arrangement. He then flipped out and said that was crazy and he wouldn't do that job. He said it would be better to have ACO drains installed along all the walls instead. So I'm a bit confused about what arrangement I need now.

I'm basically trying to pave the rear of a victorian property that has had some concrete laid up to the level of DPC. The rear wall is 3.1m and has a 2.5m bifold door installed. Then there is a side alley approx 9m to a back door 1.5m across that meets the party wall.

My question is. Should I put a Dry Area along all the wall with ACO drains under the doors and have the paving slope towards the garden wall with another ACO drain that will lead to the soil and turf?

What's the difference between a linear channel (Aco is a brand) and a dry area channel? One has a grating and costs around 10-20 quid per metre and one doesn't.

So, not sure why your landscaping guy flipped out. Sounds like an eejit to me!

The guy said having any water enter the area below the DPC would allow moisture into the house and as the linear drain is an enclosed unit no water would touch the bricks.

Would installing a Dry Area along the house wall, with the paving sloping towards the garden wall into a linear drain be the correct thing to do in this circumstance?
