I'm an avid reader of the site and of Tony's book and have just completed a small 1.5 sq m paving project using 400x400x40 basic
slabs. I have laid these on a well compacted quarry dust aggregate base and then fairly wet 6:1 mortar made using a mixer with some plasticiser. The beds were 40-50mm.
My main issue was just how difficult getting them level was? What am
I doing wrong? Everywhere states this is the best DIY option
. Is it just lack of experience or was the
Mortar too wet? I spent hours laying and relifting but couldn't seem
to get it right. Always too high too low etc. Compaction with maul was minimal.
