Anyone know of a good paving contrctaor in S.Wales ......... I had a large ammount of Indian sandstone laid (buy a memeber here) and teh pointing fell out after first winter ......... needs a full re-point.
Due to injury I cannot spend the time on my knees, so if you know of a good individual or compnany ... let me know,

Where in S.Wales Rick.
I'm based between Cardiff and Swansea and could probably point you towards a proficient contractor. Gotta be honest though its not the kind of job most of us relish. Going over someone else's work can open up a can of worms.

On outskirts on Neath (Jersey Marine)
I thought I did the right thing chose a guy visited some of his work (discarded several guys) the job was good when it went down ... but pointing failed ... He left labourer doing most of it.
I'm happy to do all the raking out and prep ... there is also other work they could pick up if they want it.
Just need someone good .. skilled at pointing.
I did look at the 'pour and wash in' grouts but this is going to make tooo much mess on paviors which edge and deliniate extions of patio & paths.
So need a good prodcut applied by someone experienced.

as an aside I have priced loads of repointing jobs and rarely get them as ,when you rake out what is left of the original half the time the slabs start moving
what you need rick is a good man on day work

I'd agree .... I 'd be happy to let someone else rake it out if they want that job as well.

I would have thought if your happy to rake out you may as well go the whole hog and point it also.
Some of those wash in grouts are good. My only experience is with Marshalls weatherpoint and similar which is easy and good enough for domestic use.
There are other stronger mix on site ones if it's a commercial project.

If I felt I could point it I would ........ I have had major surgery on my knee (5th op on same knee) and can't kneel ... and would do serious further damage to knee if I tried to spend many hrs working on it.
I thought about using a wash-in grout (seen Tony's informercials) it is was just paving it would be fine .. but I have paving bordered by pavious and a a course of them through patio as well ........ concern is the grout would wash into the paviors as well ... and being corase texture (unlike stone) it would get into the pores of the paviors and not wash off.
When I asked the manufacturers they advised you sould use a dry mix to do teh apviors (accept that) but could get no answer as to how the washed in grout comes off the paviors.
If someone know diffrenet andf knows how I could use a wash-n grout without damage to paviors I might be able to do that.
I did price upo such a grout - very expensive ... well over a £1200 for materials
Also many times on this forum people have said a properly applied trowel-in grout struck correctly is far better.
So hoping there is a contractor here who can do it.

Why would you kneel all the time to point your flags anyway, as little as possible is best.

How else would I do it ? .... I watched the guys who did it, they were on knees doing it.

How big is your patio? A tub of weatherpoint will cover 8-10 m2 on flags so unless you have a 300m2 plus patio it wont cost £1200.
It's easy to use, doesn't stain and you'll be able to DIY it without having to stay on your knees go long.

I stand most of the time ( bad knees also ) to repoint, kneeling for long periods can seriously f@#k knees up. Watched a brickie laying last week on his knees doing an oversite ???

You don't need to kneel with brush in grouts unless you strike with a pointing tool.
I have used weatherpoint with a band of coarse textured (Marshalls Drivesett Argent) and plenty of water rinses it off. Any residue can be scrubbed of with a stiff bass brush when dried.

aprox 170 sq m and the price for wash in grout (vdw800 ) with forum discount was £1200
You might think I don't have to be on my knees long ... I cannot work on my knees at all .......

Just trying to be helpful.
18 tubs of weatherpoint will cost you £720.
A competant handyman would be able to do the work for you as long as he follows the instructions on the tub so you'll be looking at around £1000 materials and labour.
Not a bad price for 180m2 of pointing considering it would take 2 men around 3 days to do it with a mortar mix.

appreciate you are trying to help ..... I want to get someone who can point properly I had a professional company in last time to lay & point and their pointing fell out after a year.
If someone who does it for a living got it wrong ... concerned that picking a handyman at random si asking for another failure.
However will choose a better product that sand & cement on advice form you guys.
