After much research on this great site and no mean amount of effort I managed to get some reasonable landscaping done to my garden last year. However due to time constraints and now health issues I may have to call in some paid help.
I have a type 1 base installed, whacked (to 25kn) and with a bit of fall in it already (will need just a finish off). I have all materials, sand, cement, sbr and stone (600x300 basalt) and 100 sq granite setts to edge along one side (14m's). Pointing will be done with a resin compound again supplied by myself. Total patio area is 35m2. No fancy shapes or curves. Easy access via double gates from drive direct into garden.
My question is what do the regulars think I should be looking at for an install cost, either per m2 or for whole job?
Laying cost?

Sounds like you have done all your homework and you know the job inside out. This will be beneficial when it comes to discussing the job with a contractor as you will know all the questions to ask etc.
A few bits of advice I would give are as follows:
-Get a couple of quotes for the job to get a price comparison.
-You really do get what you pay for in this game (I've seen a bad case of this recently which I will be documenting in full on the BC in good time), so if your even thinking of going for a cheap price just try and look ahead to how pissed off you will be if the finish of the job isn't as good as it could be. Check out the recent images from Ashley Dempsey. Its in the site works category and the thread is called recent work. This is the standard of finish that can be achieved with quality sawn paving. It will cost 30% more but your gonna have to look at this every day, so 30% extra labour cost is nothing spread over the lifetime of the job. Sorry to labour the point but I have seen so many people disappointed over the years. you get what you pay for !
-Be wary of anyone who can start straight away. good companies will always be booked up.
I know lots of landscapers up in your area, so if you need any help with it let me know

Thx for replies, yes I'm well aware of the saying if you think a pro is expensive wait till you find out how much an amateur will cost.
Not looking to get it done cheap, just want a good price on a good job. I posted as I was anticipating the sort of figure LLL suggested, so far I've had one quote back at double that plus vat. Just wanted to see if I was in the right ball park or just a bit deluded.
Steve, if you pass on the details of some of your contacts that would be great.
LLL if you want a job in Kent its yours!

falcs its always hard to say without seeing the site ,access etc.
but I would expect any decent hardscaping gang to lay ~12M2 a day average so thats around £400 a day for 2 men and a lad, which isnt a bad rate
VAT is a fact of life now
if it was north london we could do it in october but kent is a 2 hour drive for me so logistics are against us
have a look at steves contractor finder
some good lads on there
better to pay £500 more now for an excellent job, than go cheap and get a half baked job
I had a guy ring me today wanting labourers to do painting in central london?
anyway he was shocked he had been quoted £10 an hour by polish lads
what sort of finish is he going to get ???
