Hi Tony
I'm building a raised patio which will be paved with Indian sandstone flags. What specification should I use for the retaining walls? They'll need to be approx. 650mm high.

I'm thinking dense concrete blocks, faced on the visible sides with recon stone blocks to match the house. All laid on a poured concrete foundation. The level inside the walls would then be made up using rubble, topped off with MoT Type 1.
Will this work or does it need something more sophisticated?

PS - just bought your book on paving, and this seems to be one thing not covered!

Cheers,
Rob

for that high concrete H blocks would be an economic solution
3 courses gives you 675mm you can then use a coping stone or a tile creasing and brick on edge
dont forget some weep holes
we have done similar to this and faced it with stone cladding
cheers LLL
