a mate of mine wants a PIC drive and he has a quote from superior driveways based in lancs
any feedback from the brew cabin would be invaluable

Never heard of them.
At least they are a limited company with a decent website claiming 15 years' experience.
FMB doesn't mean anything as I am sure you know! The best builders I know aren't members of any trade group. Being a member of the Concrete Society doesn't mean anything either I don't think.
I think it is all in the contract. If the contractor draws up a decent written contract for you then it is much easier to take action if the job isn't a good one.

Of course you can go and see past jobs but unless he has stamped his logo on them there is no proof he did them.
Local area recommendations could be useful.

Superior are one of the better PIC contractors. I have met the owners of the company and I know they do try to be as decent and honest as is possible. They would be one of the few PIC companies I'd be willing to approach for a price.

LLL,
I live in sunny lancs and a couple of neighbours near me had there drive done by them. They imprint their details in a corner so everyone can see.
Anyway, they made a TOP job. It must have been good because half the area have had theirs done now by the same company. Will take a couple of piccies for you and show if you like.

sorry mick been offline due to pc meltdown,but i am glad that they are now doing his job
when he rang me up and said "'ere tone,is that PIC any good?" i thought uh-ohh
but this crowd sound fine by all accounts
