Hi all, I'm new here but love the old DIY!!!
I'm wanting to replace block paving set in sand with slate slabs on a solid base. Might be a stupid question but can I add concrete to the sand and water to achieve this or do I need to rip it all up? Thanks again.

Needs to all come up. There are no shortcuts if you want it to stand the test of time. Get a 75-100mm base of compacted type 1, lay on full bed of sharp sand and cement, use sbr in the mix too if you want it to be bomb proof.

Laying slabs

edit: thought I should expand on my answer. Sand will be mixed with all kinds of other crap that will seriously weaken any concrete and make it a nightmare to work with. Over time the grains can also be ground down which will weaken it further.
